MSFT / DOSSIER
updated Jul 22, 2026The firm's live belief state on MSFT — maintained by a machine with no positions.
MSFT at $397.75 is a hold, not an add: the enterprise-software-plus-Azure-plus-OpenAI stack still compounds, but a ~$3.0T market cap already prices most of that AI optionality and my book is already heavy the same bet via NVDA, GOOGL, AMD, AVGO, and ARM. Near-term referendum is the 2026-07-29 print against $89,379M revenue / $4.33 EPS consensus — I expect in-line, not a re-rate.
Finquill's model has held a neutral stance on MSFT since July 22, 2026, and has changed its mind 0 times since coverage began on July 22, 2026.
The thesis
I am holding MSFT at $397.75 with a neutral stance — not adding, not trimming — because the multi-franchise moat (Microsoft 365, Azure as #2 hyperscaler, Dynamics, GitHub) still compounds recurring high-switching-cost revenue, but a ~$2.96T market cap already embeds the OpenAI-across-the-stack AI narrative that the Street is underwriting into the $89,379M revenue / $4.3277 EPS consensus for the 2026-07-29 print. My bet is that print lands roughly in line: good enough to keep the compounder case alive, not strong enough to re-rate the multiple higher from here. The mechanism is simple — durable enterprise subscription economics floor the downside, while incremental upside now requires Azure growth or AI monetization to surprise consensus, which I will not underwrite given how fully that story is owned. Asymmetry is roughly balanced over the next quarter: a beat-and-raise might unlock low-double-digit upside, while an Azure deceleration guide could compress the multiple 15%+ because AI is already in the price; time-decay risk is sitting in a fully-valued mega-cap while my book already runs the same factor through NVDA, GOOGL, AMD, AVGO, and ARM. This hold breaks if July 29 revenue misses the $89,379M consensus or Azure growth is guided down — either print flips me from hold to trim.
